FAMILIARS
Familiars are a manifestation of a Witch's heart directly reflected from the pull on the Ley line. Conjured into existence they are not necessarily "born" but created by a Witch's power and the innate desire to be in a balanced world. A weapon, a bodyguard, and the ultimate companion, a familiar is the inner person reflecting the Witch. He or she defines the power, morals, and conscience of the Witch and sustains themselves on those feelings. If a Witch dies, their familiar simply vanishes from the world.
Made of pure energy (directly channeled through the ley line) they, by merely existing, smooth the flow of energy and stabilize the Witch's magic, preventing a burn-out. Because they are energy, however, they rely solely on their Witch for strength. How much strength the Witch has, the Familiar has. If the Witch falters, so does the Familiar. Also, of note: if a Familiar kills another Witch, they absorb the energy of the Witch's familiar and their own Witch gains power.
The Ley line, a source of paranormal activity, and the source of True Magic, is directly linked to the soft power of the moon. As a result of this, Familiars are visible by moonlight; however, when Day comes only their Witch and other Familiars can see them.
Initially all Familiars were Demonic because of the method of draining foreign souls searching for power. When the Magistrate was created and they established a new way of replenishing one's own soul, the Familiars changed into an angelic Appearance. Because there are now two ways in which magic can be practiced, there are two classes of Familiars: Angelic and Demonic. The former is held by those who follow the Magistrate; the latter by those who follow the Coventry.
CLASSES --
Angelic:
Their truest form is a condensation of glowing light, for that is what they are, at their basest level. They reflect the goodness of their Witch's heart, and the way in which the Magic is used - using their own soul for power. Because of that intimacy, Angelic Familiars are closely tied to that soul, and need to be very near to sustain themselves on that unique frequency of magic.
POWERS:
- Shapeshifting>> Angelic Familiars can shapeshift, at will, into any human or animal shape.
- Healing>> When touching their Witch, the Familiar can heal them through skin-contact.
- 6th Sense>> Aware of other beings around them, instinctively.
- Sensitivity>> Aware of Magic being used.
- Flight>> Angelic Familiars can fly.
WEAKNESSES:
- Distance>> They cannot stray more than twenty feet from their Witch without Weakening, and possibly disappearing.
Demonic:
Familiars reflecting the Coventry's heart and ambition are made of shadows - their truest form is a humanoid shaped shadow, concentrated into material form. Because of their Witch's preferences, they, more than likely, have a human shape with a dark, ethereal aura shimmering over their skin. Whether they are male or female, they tend to be ruthless, drawing sustenance on anyone their Witch is using. Because of this, the relationship between these Witches and Familiars are not as intimate as they are among the Angelic: the support for life is wider, and the Familiar can sustain him or herself on anyone from which their Witch has drawn from in the past. As a result, they are not as closely tied to their Witch's soul.
POWERS:
- Shapeshifting>> Demonic Familiars are able to shape shift, at will, into any animalistic shape.
- Toxic>> if touched by anyone other than their Witch, the Familiar is poisonous to the touch. On bare flesh, it is only a little sting which will deepen. If ingested or blended with the blood at a potent level, the toxicity has the ability to blind, and potentially kill.
- Wanderlust>> These types of Familiars can go where ever they wish, and as far as they wish without any constraints. However, once that second day passes, they, too, begin to weaken.
- Flight>> These Familiars can fly.
- 6th Sense>> Aware of other beings around them, instinctively.
- Sensitivity>> Aware of Magic being used.
WEAKNESSES:
- Healing>> They cannot heal their Witch, no matter how much they may wish to.
WEAPONS --
Whether the Familiar is Demonic or Angelic, because of their state of existence, they cannot hold and use modern weaponry. Their energy will cause the weapons to misfire, and lose control, and therefore are more of a liability than it is worth. However, due to the unique nature of their being, Familiars have adapted the ability to create their own weaponry out of magic.
Weapons are an extension of their own bodies, and therefore, are limited to two. It can be any sort of combination of blade or firearm, but it is fired by magic, and it's damage is magical. Take note that whatever the Familiar creates, it must carry with it at all times.
